To add to the vibrant shopping experience and community gathering-place atmosphere at Stoneridge Shopping Center, a farmers market will begin on October 9 and will operate twice a week on Fridays from noon until 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The market will be open year-round and will take place in the southeast corner of the parking lot, out from Macy’s Women’s and Sears. Island Earth Farmers Market will be the operator of the market.
The Stoneridge Shopping Center Farmers Market will feature the highest quality locally grown vegetables, meats, fruits, cheeses, flowers, breads and more. The market will also feature handmade jewelry, soaps and other locally made items. The goal of this market is to only feature foods and products that are grown within a 200 mile radius of Stoneridge Shopping Center. All vendors are committed to providing sustainably-farmed meats and organic produce.
Some of the featured farms will be Hamada Farms, Andreotti Farms, Yerena Farms, Catalan Farms and Twin Girls Farms. In addition, the market will feature hot foods that celebrate the local culture and cuisine. Shoppers will enjoy vendors like Roli-Roti Gourmet Rotisserie, Phat Matt’s BBQ, Soleil African Kitchen, Amber India and New Gourmet Gyros to name a few. The goal of the market is to not only offer seasonal fruits and vegetables, but also perennial produce. With fall here, visitors to the market will see an abundance of gourds, squashes, apples, grapes, boysenberries and olla berries.

Pleasanton’s Rose Hotel has decided to continue Operation Hometown Welcome, a program it started five years ago that offers free stays to Tri-Valley-based troops returning from serving in Iraq and Afganistan. The Rose Hotel is 38-room boutique, luxury hotel located in Downtown Pleasanton. The owners Mike and Joe Madden, sons of former NFL announcer John Madden opened the hotel almost eight years ago, introduced the program on the 4th of July in 2005 and the hotel has kept it for five years.
The program includes a one-night stay with continental breakfast and gifts including an official NFL football autographed by John Madden, an Operation Hometown Welcome T-shirt from Goza Gear, and a gift certificate toward luxury treatment at MD Spa in Pleasanton.
The program is open to service personnel returning from any overseas, unaccompanied tour of duty. To receive a free room, they must show a copy of their orders when checking in.
Thanks to The Rose Hotel owners and management, a little more than 100 servicemen and women have used the program in the last five years. With only 38 rooms, one room equals 2.5 percent of the hotel’s occupancy, which really shows the management and owner’s dedication to the military! What a great way to thank our soldiers for serving their country.

It’s nearing the end of our Fiscal Year, and for one, am excited to see what this year will bring.
As an organization, we continue to evolve and grow. Most recently, we announced a restructure to our membership model to a new benefit-driven Tourism Partner Program — designed to address the challenges that the travel and tourism industry faces today.
After all, this tough economy calls for revisiting business models and developing a new perspective on customer requirements. A one-size-fits-all model is not beneficial to many businesses in this economy, so it is with this in mind that we’ve developed a benefits-based model, which includes for the first time, a ‘free’ level of participation.
The Tourism Partner Program offers a customized fee structure that is driven by the benefits that individual businesses receive. And for the first time, we are introducing a COMPLIMENTARY basic website listing for all tourism-related businesses in the Tri-Valley. This will allow our website, www.trivalleycvb.com , to be a comprehensive resource for individual travelers, families, group travel planners, meeting, event, and sport planners, and anyone who has interest in visiting the Tri-Valley.
These complimentary web listings will be a welcome addition to constrained sales and marketing budgets while also serving to strengthen our organization’s ability to be a more comprehensive and accurate resource for visitors.
The CVB is, after all, a service business. We exist to service our clients – the leisure visitor, business traveler, meeting planner and media. With our new Tourism Partner Program, we have the capability to show them all that Tri-Valley has to offer and to entice them to visit – and stay longer!
